ALTA banka bankruptcy: deposits paid out by Poštanska štedionica

What was decided

On 3 November 2026 the Commercial Court in Belgrade opened bankruptcy proceedings against ALTA banka and appointed the Deposit Insurance Agency as bankruptcy administrator. The same day the Agency's Board chose Banka Poštanska štedionica as the bank that pays insured amounts to ALTA banka depositors.

On 2 November the National Bank of Serbia said that all insured deposits are protected and will be paid in the full insured amount, guaranteed by the Republic of Serbia.

When payouts start

According to the Agency, the payout start date and the network of Poštanska štedionica branches where money will be paid will be published on aod.rs by Friday 6 November 2026. The Agency must start payouts within the following seven working days.

How much is paid and in which currency

Up to EUR 50,000 per depositor is insured, combined across all accounts at ALTA banka regardless of their number, type or currency. Individuals, entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium-sized companies are covered, as well as registered farms, citizens' associations and lawyers.

Dinar balances are paid in dinars and foreign-currency balances in euros, at the NBS middle rate on the day bankruptcy opened (3 November 2026). Depositors file any amount above EUR 50,000 themselves as a claim in the bankruptcy proceedings.

What to bring to the bank

According to the Agency, along with your ID you show an original document proving your right to the money: the current account agreement, the account card or another valid document. Parents of minors also bring a birth certificate.

Entrepreneurs and companies also bring a certified OP form and, if the money is not collected by the legal representative, a power of attorney on company letterhead. If you want euros transferred to an account at another bank, bring transfer instructions with the IBAN.

If your salary or pension was paid to ALTA banka

Your ALTA banka account no longer works, so you need a new account at another bank, which you then give to your employer or pension fund. Compare account fees and terms of all banks using the links below and choose the bank that suits you.
