On 4 November 2026 the National Bank of Serbia warned that ALTA banka borrowers are receiving fake text messages asking them to pay loan instalments to accounts at Poštanska štedionica. Do not pay anything based on such messages.

What is happening

According to the NBS, citizens are reporting text messages with "AltaPay" shown as the sender, and some receive messages from unknown numbers. The messages ask borrowers to settle their loan obligations by paying to certain accounts at Banka Poštanska štedionica.

The NBS immediately informed Poštanska štedionica so it could act on the account mentioned in one of the messages and tighten checks on suspicious payments.

What the NBS advises

The NBS tells clients of ALTA banka in bankruptcy and of Alta Group d.o.o. Beograd not to make any payments based on such or similar text messages or e-mails.

Borrowers will receive clear information and instructions on further loan repayment only from the Deposit Insurance Agency, which has taken over the management of the bank.

How you will know where to pay your loan

You still have to repay your loan under the contract, but wait for the official notice. According to the Deposit Insurance Agency, the account of ALTA banka in bankruptcy for future instalments will be published on aod.rs.

If you are not sure a message is genuine, check the notices on aod.rs and nbs.rs or call the NBS Info Centre free of charge on 0800 111 110. Do not open links from suspicious messages and never send card details.
