Published

At an extraordinary meeting on 27 October 2026, the National Bank of Serbia extended the deadline for exchange offices and the Post to return unsold foreign cash to banks from 15 to 30 days. The measure applies until 10 December 2026.

What was decided

At an extraordinary meeting on 27 October 2026, the Executive Board of the National Bank of Serbia extended the deadline for returning unsold foreign cash to banks from 15 to 30 days. The measure applies to authorised exchange offices and the public postal operator until 10 December 2026.

Why

According to the NBS, the aim is to keep the exchange market stable and ensure a continuous supply of foreign cash to citizens. The NBS says the foreign exchange market is stable and that banks and exchange offices have enough foreign cash.

What it means for citizens

Nothing changes in how citizens buy or sell foreign currency. Exchange offices and the Post can keep the foreign cash they bought from banks for longer, so there should be enough at the counters.
